Weather & Seasons

The region’s weather is temperate in nature, sheltered from the worst of the weather from the north or the west by the jagged snow-topped mountain ranges.

Winters are long with the coldest time being during the months of Blot, Geloa and Wulf when snow often covers the ground and creatures from the wildwoods and moors venture closer to civilisation looking for food. The region is practically cut off from the outside world during the winter with only the occasional extremely foolhardy person attempting the drove road route from Silverwell.

Spring creeps in slowly from mid – Hreth when the snows begin to melt and the rivers run in spate carrying cold melt water from the mountains. It is at this time, around the 20th, the inhabitants will join in small family or community gatherings to celebrate the renewal of life to the earth. Spring weather is mild, but hard deep frosts can linger in the valleys and glens in the mornings well into Eost. Planting of crops tends to start on the coast at the end of Hreth, with the high glens catching up by early Thrim.

Summer can arrive any time from the 4th quarter of Thrim into the beginning of Sere but the summer months are generally regarded as being Sere, Mœd and Weod when there are generous helpings of sunshine, without the temperatures getting too high and the rain blesses the region with enough to keep the land from drought. Occasional thunderstorms rumble in from the west bringing heavy but short lived downpours but rarely do they cause problems.

Autumn tends to be short lived, only lasting about two and a half months from Hœer to mid- Blot. The landscape becomes a vibrant rainbow of russets, golds and reds as the leaves turn on the trees and the crops turn golden.
