The Races
A visitor to the area will note that most of the people are humans who prefer to live on the coast and in the lower glens, with many to be found in and around Huntsford and along the coast to Templeford. They are tolerant of most other races, with Halflings, dwarves and elves being fairly common.
A small number Dwarves have traditionally dwelt at Leathforge in the shadow of the monolithic Leath Torrs in the north. They also dwell in the Northern range providing a ‘guard’ of sorts from Angard Raiders but mostly they live deep in the mountains and don’t venture beyond the northern edge.
The elves tend to keep to keep to themselves, being a private people having settled at Haven Glen on the eastern peninsula. Yet, the more gregarious ones will live alongside humans and as a result a few mixed race families exist in the region. They used to populate the region and as a result their language still occurs in the Elven names of places that are sometimes still used. Unfortunately, Half-elves can be seen as second rate and impure by a handful of bigoted humans who are intolerant other races and certainly dislike to the point of loathing ‘half breeds’ as they call them.
A few elves have been known to live in the wild woods to the west and have been confused with the Eladrin who linger the deep forests at the root of the Iron Mountains. Sightings of Eladrin are few and far between and the arrival of their kind in Rovanna causes a kind of reserved excitement. A few Halflings tend the coastal beacons in the east and have settled at Beaconsfield and they also live comfortably alongside the humans and handful of dwarves in Huntsford and Templeford.
Dragonborn are viewed with suspicion but respected as excellent soldiers and hired muscle. Few live in the region as they tend to spend their time wandering looking for work as bodyguards or mercenaries. A small group have a base at Moorthan on the drove road to Silverwell where they hire themselves to the merchant caravans or travellers as ‘protectors’. They revel in the hunt and during the winter months the most adventurous will head south beyond Silverwell looking for weird and strange creatures or to take on work.
The Rovannans are a tough people used to dealing with the strange creatures which sometimes trouble them, coming out of the mountains on occasion to carry off a few sheep or cattle or to raid their crops, yet lately there have been more sightings of wolves and other unknown creatures than is usual and the raiders from Angard have been appearing more frequently.
